Turning off ScreenTips
ScreenTips are the small yellow boxes that appear as you position the mouse pointer over a toolbar button or over another control on the Word programme window. ScreenTips are used in all versions of Word since Word 6, some people find these ScreenTips distracting, however. Beginning with Word 97, you can control whether they are displayed or not. To turn them off:
* Choose the Customize option from the Tools menu (the Customize dialogue box is displayed).
* Click on the Options tab.
* Make sure the Show ScreenTips on Toolbars option is not selected (remove tick).
* Click on Close.
Despite what the option in the dialogue box implies, this setting turns off ScreenTips for controls other than toolbars, as well. For instance, ScreenTips normally appear as you position the mouse pointer over the different areas of the Status Bar. With the Show ScreenTips on Toolbars option turned off, the ScreenTips don't appear for Status Bar options, either.

PCP A TO Z: Hyperlink
A hyperlink (often simply referred to as a link), is a reference or navigation element in a document to another section of the same document, another document, or a specified section of another document, that automatically brings the referred information to the user when the navigation element is selected by the user. Combined with a data network and suitable access protocol, a computer can be instructed to fetch the resource referenced.
Hyperlinks are part of the foundation of the World Wide Web created by Tim Berners-Lee, but are not limited to HTML or the web. Hyperlinks may be used in almost any electronic media.
PCP FREEBIE OF THE WEEK: GIMPshop image editor
The GIMP image editor, which has been around for 10 years or so, is very powerful but the interface can be a little ‘challenging’. GIMPshop is a version of the GIMP that has been modified to work more like Adobe Photoshop. Many of these changes relate to the structure and layout of menus. The Windows version also uses the Deweirdifyer Plugin, so that all the windows appear in one window, rather than the many windows found in the ordinary version of GIMP.
There are also versions of GIMPshop available for Mac OS X and Linux. As it is open source, the source code is also available.

PCP SIMPLE TRUTHS: Sheetz’s ruminations (4)
To err is human; to forgive is against company policy.
PCP STUPIDITY: Floppy abuse (III)
When a computer lab upgraded from Apple IIe computers to Macs, one student asked for technical help because she was having problems with the new computers. She had ‘reformatted’ her 5.25 inch disks by trimming them down with a pair of scissors so that they would fit into the 3.5 inch drives.
