Government issues wanted posters as attack is considered ‘imminent’
By James Parkes
SPAIN’S INTERIOR Ministry has increased its campaign to hunt down and arrest the six most-wanted ETA terrorists who could be planning attacks on the Costas before the end of summer.
Photos of the six terrorists were already sent out to National Police and Guardia Civil stations nationwide in July and have now been resent to health centres, tourist offices and town halls.
Around 25,000 more posters have been printed and are being distributed by National Police and Guardia Civil.
Over 5,000 of the posters will also be placed in pedestrian areas where a large number of people are likely to see them daily.
The terrorists are Ander Múgica Andonegui, who is believed to have taken part in recent attacks (black and white photo - bottom centre), Saioa Sánchez Iturregui (top left), Leire López Zurutuza (top centre), Joseba Mikel Olza Puñal (top right), Eneko Zarrabeitia Salterain (bottom left) and Aitzol Etxaburu Arteche (bottom right).
The Ministry believes they are planning an imminent attack and consider citizens’ collaboration to be ‘vital’ in tracking them down and bringing them to justice.
POSSIBLE SIGHTINGS
In the past, the distribution of terrorists’ photographs has led to the arrest of many suspects.
Residents of all nationalities are asked to collaborate with police.
Shortly after the first batch of photographs was issued in July, Neighbourhood Watch told Costa Levante News that two positive sightings of the terrorists had been made in the Southern Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida. In both cases sightings were reported to police.
If you think you have seen them, try to remember as many details as possible and pass on the information immediately to police by dialling 112 or the direct National Police and Guardia Civil freephones 900 100 091 and 900 100 062 respectively.
Car details – registration numbers, makes – and addresses if they were seen entering a property or commercial premises could be key to arresting them.
COSTA TARGET
ETA has targeted the Costas during summer holidays on numerous occasions to draw attention to their demands.
The worst attack was a bomb explosion at Santa Pola Guardia Civil barracks in August 2002 when two people were killed.

The British residents in the village of Ayora were recovering in Geminis bar last week the day after the local fiestas finished. There weren’t many people about, but the Brits showed their stamina!
